Mustered 14 Oct 61. Discharged on Disability 22 March 62 at Camp Farnum, MD. Enlisted & mustered 31 July 62 in Co. I, 1st Regiment of Mounted Rifles at New York. On daily duty in Section of Howitzer. Deserted 14 Dec 63 while on furlough. Enlisted & mustered in the 12th NY Cavalry under the alias of James Ackley on 7 Dec 63 at New York, a 22 year old Laborer. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. POW at Andersonville, GA. Incorrectly reported as dying at Andersonville. Paroled and sent to Annapolis, MD. Moved to Williamsport, PA. Married 6 Jan 1869 to Sarah Ann Jerald in the Wesley Methodist Church, Williamsport. Applied 23 Aug 1890 for Invalid Pension in PA. By 1910 he was a Boiler Maker in Hay Creek, WY. Died 20 April 1915 of Chronic Bronchitis at Hulett, Crook Co. Wyoming. Headstone. Widow Sarah A. Hall applied 29 July 1915 for a pension in Wyoming.

ATWELL, William C. - Sergeant, Co. F. Born in New York, NY. First served in Co. F, 83rd NY Infantry. Enlisted 21 Dec 62 in the 12th NY Cavalry at New York, NY, a 22 year old Clerk. Mustered in 28 April 63. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. Paroled. Reduced to ranks 1 March 65. Discharged 22 June 65 at New Bern, NC. Resided in Detroit, MI after the war. Admitted several times to the Soldiers Home in Dayton, OH. Transferred to the Southern Branch of Soldier Homes on 20 May 1923. Died 6 July 1924 of Hypostatic Pneumonia at the National Soldiers Home, VA. Buried in Hampton National Cemetery. Headstone

AVERY, Eli - Private, Co. F. Born in Canada. Enlisted 16 Jan 63 at Rouse Point, NY, a 23 year old Carpenter. Mustered in 28 April 63. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NY. Received gunshot wound to his left foot near Savannah, GA. Mustered out 19 July 65. Located on the 1890 WI Veteran's Census at North West Branch National Home in Milwaukee, WI. Died 3 March 1905. Buried in Hanna, La Porte Co., Indiana. Also borne as AVEY.

BAILEY, Daniel - Private, Co. A. Born March 1836 in Oswego Co., NY. Enlisted 11 Aug 62 at Fulton, Osewgo Co., NY, a 24 year old Farmer. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. POW at Andersonville, GA. Probably held at Florence, SC as it is stated that he returned to Union lines at Goldsboro, NC. Also listed as a paroled POW at Annapolis, MD. Mustered out 19 July 65 at Raleigh, NC. BAKER, Rollin Thaddeus - Assistant Surgeon. Born 13 May 1836 in Andover, Allegany Co., NY, son of Dr. Thaddeus & Sarah (Storrs) Baker. Married Ellen M. Ellis. Enlisted 18 Aug 63 at age 27. Mustered in 5 Sep 63 as Assistant Surgeon. Died 15 Oct 1864 of Yellow Fever at Camp Palmer near New Bern, NC. Buried in New Bern National Cemetery, NC. Plot 854. Headstone. BALDWIN, Philander C. - Private, Co. F. Born 7 March 1838 at Chester, Orange Co., NY, son of William & Sally Ann (Ide) Baldwin. Enlisted 5 Sept 64 at age 26 at Albany, NY. Discharged 23 June 65 at Tarboro, NC. Died 17 April 1916.

BARNES, Jonathan A. - Private, Co. F. Married 16 Jan 1820 to Sally Hair in Bakersfield, Vermont. First enrolled Sept 61 in Co. I, 60th NY Infantry; a Farmer from Dickinson, Franklin Co., NY. Discharged for Disability in 62. Enrolled next on 30 March 63 at New York, NY at age 44 from Dickinson, NY. Mustered in 28 April 63. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. POW at Andersonville, GA. (Squad 26, 2nd Mess) Admitted 21 July to the prison hospital and died 22 July 1864 of Scorbutus & Dysentery. Grave 3748. There are other death dates listed towards the end of July as well.

BLACKWOOD, Neil, Jr. - Private, Co. A. Born April 1844 at Oswego, NY, son of Neil & Eveline Blackwood. First served in the Militia for one year. Enlisted 16 Aug 62 in the 5th NY Cavalry. Transferred 20 Aug 62 to the 12th NY Cavalry, an 18 year old Clerk from Oswego, NY. Absent on detached service with the Lieut. Colonel at NY obtaining conscripts. On detached duty June 64 as Orderly for Major F. Clarkson. Mustered out 19 July 65 at Raleigh, NC. Occupation Sailor. Applied 24 May 1897 for a pension in MI. Admitted to the Michigan Soldier's Home, Grand Rapids, MI where he died 23 March 1907 and is buried. Headstone.

BURLEIGH, William - Private, Co. F. Born Jan 1840 in England, son of John & Elizaeth Burley. Immigrated 1852. Enlisted & mustered 12 Sept 64 at Avon, NY, a 26 year old Blacksmith. Mustered out 23 June 65 at Tarboro, NC. Applied 5 Oct 1889 for an Invalid Pension. Died 8 Sept 1923 at Geneseo, NY. Buried in Temple Hill Cemetery. Widow Elizabeth applied 4 Oct 1923 for a pension. BURNS, James - Private, Co. F. Enlisted & Mustered 5 Jan 64 at New York, NY. Court-Martial, 15 March 64, New Bern, NC. Charge of conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline. On the night of 18 Jan 64, while on a government transport from New Bern to Plymouth, NC, Burns stole $200 from the pocket of Private Peter Cronin. Found guilty. Ordered to return the $200 and forfeit all pay. His head was to be shaved, discharged from the army and turned over to the civil authorities of NY and confined at the State Penitentiary for three years. Confined 15 Feb 64 due to the theft. Ignominiously discharged 29 Feb 64 by Court-martial. Sentence revoked by the President of the U.S. to rejoin the regiment. On 31 Dec 64 he is marked "Absent in confinement." Discharged for theft 3 April 65 by Court-martial at Plymouth, NC. Also listed as discharged 7 May 64 for disability.

Absent 31 Aug 64 on Leave of Absence in U.S. Hospital, Beaufort, NC. Appointed 20 Jan 65 as 1st Lieut of Co. F with rank from 1 Dec 64. Mustered out 19 July 65 at Raleigh, NC. Discharged 10 July63 for disability at the U.S. General Hospital, New Bern, NC. Enlisted next on 20 Aug 64 in Co. F, 142nd NY Infantry. Living in Dickinson, Franklin Co., NY in 1890. CHURCH, Cyrus - Captain, Co. A. Born 19 July 1828 in Fulton Oswego Co., NY, the twin brother of Simeon Church and son of Hubbard & Flavilla (Cook) Church. Enlisted 22 Aug 62 at age 33 at New York, NY. Mustered in 19 Nov 62 as 2nd Lieut of Co. A but not commissioned. Promoted 23 April 63 to Captain, Co. A. Killed 20 July 1863 at Tarboro, NC. Per Charles Burt, he was shot 9 times in the chest, once in the neck and once in the head. Buried in Mount Adnah Cemetery. Headstone.

Absent sick 31 Dec 63 in the hospital at New Bern, NC. Part of the initial cavalry picket who engaged the Confederates on the afternoon of April 17th, 1864 when he was killed. First fatality in the Battle of Plymouth. After the battle, Alonzo Cooper and a squad of men were allowed to locate Fancher's body and bury him. Chaplain Dixon, 16th CT, held a service. Anna applied 18 June 1864 for a widow's pension. A probable 2nd NC soldier took Fancher's name and was a POW at Andersonville, GA. (Squad 19, 3rd Mess) Admitted to the prison hospital 16 Aug with Ulcers and identified himself as Amos Fancher of Co. F. He died 31 August 1864. Anna re-married 16 Dec 1865 to Eli Pearsons.
