Although the Regimental Headquarters for the 2nd NC was located at Beaufort, NC, all of the following members either enrolled at Plymouth, NC or were present at the Battle of Plymouth, which took place 17-20th April, 1864. The 1st NC, to which the 2nd NC was consolidated with on 27 Feb 1865, mustered out on 27 Aug 1865.

Returned later and then deserted on 22 Feb 1865 at Carolina City, NC.

BASNIGHT, Randall - Private, Co. B. Born about 1815 in Tyrell Co., NC, the son of Jacob & Polly (Messer) Basnight. Married to Mary E. Enrolled 18 Oct 63 at age 46 from Tyrrell Co., NC. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. POW at Weldon, NC and forced to assist in building an earthwork near the Roanoke River Railroad Bridge. Transferred to Castle Thunder Prison in Richmond, VA. BAZEMORE, Alden - Private, Co. B. Born 18 Feb 1820 Bertie Co., NC, son of Abisha & Mary Kesiah (Chapell) Bazemore. Married to Emaline. Deserted 25 Dec 63 as a Private in Co. F, 68th NC. Enrolled 1 Jan 64 in Co. B, 2nd NC Union Volunteers at Plymouth, NC at age 44 from Bertie Co., NC. Mustered 21 Jan 64 at New Bern, NC. Recorded as Missing in Action at Plymouth, NC. Apparently enrolled again in Co. F, 68th NC on 25 June 64 in Bertie Co., NC. Died 22 May 1900 and is buried in the Alden Bazemore Family Cemetery, near Windsor, Bertie Co., PA.

BIRD, James - Private, Co. B. Born about 1826 in Bertie Co., NC, son of Sarah. Married to Caroline. Enlisted 1 Dec 63 at Plymouth, NC at age 37 from Bertie Co., NC. Caroline & the children were at Plymouth, NC when the battle began and were sent to Roanoke Island on the Massasoit. Caroline was sick and died shortly after their arrival. James escaped 19 April 64 during the Battle of Plymouth. Hid in the swamps to elude capture. Rescued 27 April 64 by the Ceres. Transferred to Roanoke Island, NC for treatment of Scurvy. Returned in May 64 and transferred 27 Feb 65 to Co. D, 1st NC. Married 3 June 1866 to Emeline, widow of John Butler, 2nd NC, who died at Andersonville. Widow Emeline applied 28 Dec 1889 for a pension. Also spelled BYRD.

B, 2nd NC Union Volunteers on 23 Oct 63 at Plymouth, NC at age 30 from Bertie Co., NC. Eluded capture 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. Returned during May or June 64. Transferred 27 Feb 65 to Co. H, 1st NC. Discharged for disability, date unknown. Mother applied 22 July 1890 for a pension.

BOWEN, William E. - 1st Sergeant, Co. E. Married 13 Dec 1857 to Francis M. Barnacastle in Bertie Co., NC. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. Died 1 June 1864 at Andersonville, GA. George J. Harrell stated he died in either June or July 1864. Possibly either buried as an unknown or under an assumed name. Minor pension 10 July 1866. Widow Francis married George J. BRANTLEY, John Moore - Private, Co. B. Married 17 Jan 1861 to Jane C. Copeland in Hertford Co., NC. Enrolled 28 Nov 63 at Plymouth, NC at age 27 from Martin Co., NC. Mustered in 5 Dec 63 at New Bern, NC. Died 8 Feb 1864 of Pleurisy & Pneumonia in the Regimental Hospital at Plymouth, NC. Widow applied 12 May 1866 for a pension.

BRIGGS, Wilson B. - Private, Co. A. Born 17 Nov 1826 in Buncombe Co., NC, son of Thomas & Jane (Wilson) Briggs. Married to Mary Evans. A Farmer from Yancey Co., NC. BROWNING, Malachi W. -  Corporal, Co. E. Born about 1838 in NC, son of Luke and Penelope Browning. Enrolled 20 Nov 63 at Plymouth, NC as a Private, a 25 year old Farmer from Martin Co., NC. Appointed 8 Feb 64 to Corporal. Captured 25 April 64 at the Battle of Plymouth. Died at Andersonville, GA. Date unknown. Father applied 11 Aug 1882 for a pension. Middle initial also listed as M.

POW at Andersonville, GA. (Squad 38, 1st Mess). Died 1 August 1864 of Scurvy at Andersonville, GA. No grave information. Private Yancey Evans states he died the middle of June 1864. Widow Emeline applied 2 Feb 1866 for a pension. Emeline married James Bird, 2nd NC.

Mustered 1 Sept 62 at Garysburg, NC. Captured 21 June 63 at Upperville, VA. Paroled 25 June 63 from the Old Capitol Prison, Washington, DC. Exchanged 30 June 63 at City Point, VA. Paid 31 Aug and then deserted 1 Sept 63. Enlisted as a Private in Co. B, 2nd NC Union Volunteers on 1 Dec 63 at age 30 from Bertie Co., NC. Promoted 8 Feb 64 to Corporal. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. POW at Andersonville, GA & Florence, SC under an assumed name. Died 1 Nov 1864 due to Black Scurvy in the Florence Stockade per Yancey Evans. Buried as an unknown in the Florence National Cemetery, Florence, SC. Mother Celia applied 13 July 1882 for a pension.

Escaped during Battle of Plymouth, NC. Made his way for 6 days to Washington, NC along with James Corbit and William Myers. Transferred 27 Feb 65 to Co. D, 1st NC. Discharged 27 Jan 65 at New Bern, NC. Married to Lizzie. Living in Bertie Co., NC in 1890. Applied 11 Oct 1890 for Invalid Pension. Admitted to the Soldiers Home at Hampton, VA. Died 13 May 1924 at Colerain, Bertie Co., NC. Widow ELizabeth applied 4 Jan 1930 for a pension.

CALE, John T. - Private, Co. B. Born 18 June 1845 in Bertie Co., NC; son of Duncan L. & Harriett (Hoggard) Cale. Enlisted 10 Oct 63 at Plymouth, NC at age 18 from Bertie Co., NC. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. Assumed identity as a member of Co. G, 85th NY Infantry. POW at Andersonville, GA. (Squad 36, 3rd Mess) Admitted 16 June to the prison hospital and died 18 June 1864 of Acute Diarrhea. Buried as 85th NY. Grave 2136.

CALE, William Riley - Private, Co. B. Born in 9 Feb 1842 Bertie Co., NC; son of Freeman J. & Druscilla Cale. Enlisted in Co. B, 12th Battalion NC Cavalry but never served in that regiment. Enlisted in Co. B, 2nd NC on 1 Dec `63 at Plymouth, NC at age 22 from Bertie Co., NC . MIA at the Battle of Plymouth. Reported as captured, but survived war and returned home. Married Mary Ann Outlaw on 1 Dec 1868 in Bertie County. Died 13 Jan 1887 in Bertie Co., NC. Widow applied 12 July 1890 for a pension.

CAPEHART, Richard E. - Private, Co. E. Enlisted 27 Nov 63 at age 34 from Bertie Co., NC. MIA at the Battle of Plymouth. Reported as captured. No further information.

CAPEHART, Thomas John - Private, Co. B. Born 16 Aug 1846 in Bertie Co., NC, son of Charles & Narcissy Capehart. Enlisted 27 Nov 63 at Plymouth, NC, age 17 from Bertie Co., NC. MIA at the Battle of Plymouth. Returned later and was transferred 27 Feb 65 to Co. D, 1st NC. Married 22 Jan 1867 to Sally Ann Holloman in Bertie Co., NC. Married next about 1890 to Narcissus May. Applied 10 May 1893 for Invalid Pension. Narcissus died 1907 at Terrell, Kaufman Co., TX. Admitted first to the Soldier's Home, Leavenworth, KS in 1915 & readmitted 13 April 1920 from Austin, TX. Died 5 May 1920 of Hypo-static Pneumonia & Chronic Diffuse Nephritis and buried in Leavenworth National Cemetery. Headstone.

CASTELLOW, Thomas Q. - Private, Co. B. First served 21 Sept 61 as 2nd Lieutenant, "White's Dist.," 8th Regiment, 2nd Brigade, NC Militia. Deserted. Enlisted 10 Dec 63 at age 32 from Bertie Co., NC. MIA at the Battle of Plymouth. Reported as captured. Also borne as CASTALOW.

CASTELLOW, Truston - Private, Co. E. Born about 1829 in NC, son of Nancy. Enlisted 19 Jan 64, a 35 year old Farmer from Bertie Co., NC. Married 29 Nov 1855 to Priscilla Byram. MIA at the Battle of Plymouth. Returned later and was transferred 27 Feb 65 to Co. D, 1st NC. Applied 1 March 1886 for Invalid Pension. Died 1 August 1909. Widow applied 11 Aug 1909 for a pension.

CHEEK, William T. - Corporal, Co. F. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. Died 3 May 1864 of Chronic Diarrhea at Andersonville, GA. Grave 864. Headstone. There is a possibility he was not captured at Plymouth. Mother applied 13 April 1887 for a pension.

COBB, John A. - Private, Co. E. Enlisted 14 Dec 63 at age 18 from Bertie Co., NC. MIA at the Battle of Plymouth. Reported as captured. Father applied 12 July 1884. Father's pension indicates that he died 22 Feb 1864 of measles.

COBB, Samuel - Private, Co. E. Married to Sarah. Enlisted 23 Oct 63 at age 35 from Bertie Co., NC. Captured at the Battle of Plymouth. POW at Weldon & Wilson, NC & Castle Thunder, VA. Died 11 Feb 1865 as a POW at Castle Thunder, Richmond, VA. Mother applied 28 Oct 1869 for a pension.

Held command of the recruits for the 2nd NC Union Volunteers at Plymouth, NC. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth. Escaped. Paroled 13 Nov 64. Mustered out 25 June 65. CONNER, Abner P. - Private, Co. B. Married to Elizabeth L. Dempsey. Enlisted 28 Nov 1863 at age 23 from Bertie Co., NC. Captured at the Battle of Plymouth. Elizabeth & their son John stayed at Plymouth. She died at Plymouth 2 or 3 weeks after the battle. Died at Andersonville as POW during June or July of 1864 per Yancey Evans. Son Joseph H. Conner applied for 27 Feb 1889 for Minor pension.

COPELAND, Henry - Private, Co. B. Enlisted 28 Nov `63 at age 32 from Hertford Co., NC. Transferred 27 Feb `65 to Co. D, 1st NC.

He then moved back to Bertie Co. and was overseer for Cullen Capehart. Enrolled 15 Oct 63 at Beaufort, NC at age 36. Mustered in 11 Nov 63 into Co. E as Sergeant. MIA at the Battle of Plymouth, NC. Returned. Reduced to Corporal and transferred 7 Nov 64 to Co. B. Transferred 27 Feb 65 to Co. D, 1st NC. Moved to Beaufort, NC after the war and became Deputy Sheriff of Carteret Co. for many years. Mother Harriet went with John to Plymouth when he enlisted. He rented a house in Plymouth for her and provided her support. Died 2 Feb 1864 of Congestive Intermittent Fever in his quarters at Plymouth, NC. At his death, John was indebted to his company officer and the sutler because of his support for his mother. Private Marcus Todd took over the care of Harriet until the Battle of Plymouth when she boarded the Massasoit and went to Roanoke Island. She drew provisions from the government for the rest of the war.

On 2 Jan 64 he was detached to recruit men for the 2nd NC Union Volunteers at Plymouth and Roanoke Island, NC as a 2nd Lieutenant. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. POW at Macon, GA, Charleston & Camp Asylum, Columbia, SC. Paroled 10 Dec 64 from Columbia at Charleston, SC. Reported 15 Dec 64 at Camp Parole, Annapolis, MD. Left 16 Dec 64 on 30 day furlough. Requested an extension of furlough because of an attack of typhoid fever. Returned 13 Feb 65. Discharged 15 May 65 to date 17 Dec 64, due to expiration of term. Possibly enlisted in the U.S. Army. Married to Sarah J. After her death, he re-married 2 April 1891 to Mary Jane Pollitt. Served as Chief Clerk in the Prothonotary's Office in Pittsburgh for 30 years.
