FLUSSER, Charles Williamson - Lieutenant Commander - Born 27 Sept 1832 in Annapolis, MD, son of Charles Thomas & Juliana (Waters) Flusser. Moved to KY as a child. Appointed to the Navy from KY. Midshipman 19 July 1847. Passed Midshipman 10 June 1853. Master 15 Sep 1855. Lieutenant 16 Sep 1855. Lieutenant-Commander July 1862. Took charge of the Miami in May 63. Killed 3:30 a.m. on 19 April 1864 in the clash with the C. S. S. Albemarle when a shell fired by him rebounded off of the Albemarle killing him instantly. Miami on May 5, 1864 during the Battle of Albemarle Sound against the Albemarle. Acting Volunteer Lieutenant-Commander on May 30, 1865. Honorably discharged on October 21, 1865.

HACKETT, Frank Warren - Acting Assistant Paymaster. Born 11 April 1841 in Portsmouth, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire, the son of William & Olive (Pickering) Hackett. Student at Harvard University from 1858-1861. Rated Acting Assistant Paymaster on 11 Sept 62. Present at the Battle of Plymouth, NC. Resigned 6 Oct 64. Returned to Harvard University until 1868 and began to practice Law in Portsmouth, NH. He married Ida Craven in 1880 and continued his practice. He later served as a civilian administrator and Lawyer for the US Navy and as Assistant Secretary of the Navy (1900-1901) under President William McKinley. Afterwards, he practiced Law in Washington, DC & New Castle, NH. Died 10 Aug 1926.
